Self Care - Timesaver #5 for Career Women

Remember that movie 'The Horse Whisperer'? Well now there is a Sleep Whisperer!

With the constant go, go, go of your life, self care is so very important for your health and well being.

SLEEP

One of the best things you can do is get a good night's sleep. But sometimes, maybe a lot of the time, you can't shut down the blastosphere of your mind. Sleep won't come on demand, it can be aggravatingly elusive. I know.

My Mom was a herbalist and she once told me that as you get older you don't need as much sleep and in my recollection she mentioned five hours being sufficient. Right or wrong, that number stuck in my head from an early age (mid 20's) so for me, four to six hours became my norm. Talk about the power of suggestion.

Also being raised by my Mom, taking OTC or prescription pills was not an option as a solution. That stuck with me too. Although I do confess to trying some sleep medications in the past, I just hated the groggy feeling I had when the alarm woke me the next morning.

I'm sure if you are familiar with insomnia to any degree you have read that having a pre-bedtime ritual to help you wind down helps enormously.

BATH TIME

Do you have the patience to lay in a tub? Occasionally I will force myself and take my iPad in to watch a movie or read a book and then it becomes bearable. By now, if you have read my previous blog posts, you will realize that I like combining tasks to achieve multiple goals. So here we go.

When I first started making bath bombs it forced me to take baths frequently cause I had to test my bath bombs before I could sell them. I went through the novelty of creating rainbow color effects in the tub but at the end of the day what I formulated was a recipe that was purely and wonderfully functional. It delivers magnesium to your body in the form of Epsom Salts and organic cocoa butter moisturizes your skin so effectively that you literally do not need to apply moisturizer when you got out. Timesaver! And no it doesn't leave an oil slick in your tub. (Stay tuned, I will be making some soon. You could always give me a nudge and tell me you want some!).

However you spend your time in the tub and whatever products you use, taking a bath before you get into bed is extremely therapeutic and a great preparation for finding sleep.

THE SLEEP WHISPERER

When you do finally get into your bed let me introduce you to the Sleep Whisperer.

Just his whispering voice is extremely calming and enough to put you to sleep. However he is actually delivering a form of therapy and the most amazing part of this is that if you do fall asleep, it keeps playing and apparently your brain registers this input while you sleep. Major Timesaver!

For your own peace of mind, make sure you listen all the way through to hear what he is saying so you have the confidence to relax when you play it at night.

I truly hope you try this out, just once at least, and please let me know if it helped you fall asleep.

Cheers,

Trish
